The game works completely with two people, and the only change is the size of the opening hand and the pace of the race. Two players take 21 tiles each at Split, leaving 102 tiles in the bunch.
The short version
- Take 21 tiles face down at the start of the game.
- Call Split together to flip your tiles and begin building.
- Take 1 tile from the bunch whenever anyone calls Peel.
- Exchange 1 difficult tile for 3 fresh ones by calling Dump.
The deal gives two players the largest opening hand of any player count. You start with 21 tiles each face down on the table, exactly like games with 3 or 4 people. Those 42 initial tiles leave 102 tiles in the bunch ready for the rest of the game.

Every Peel draws 2 tiles, which is one for each person. If nobody calls Dump, the bunch can support up to 51 Peels before reaching the point where Bananas can be called. That gives a two player match a very long runway compared to larger tables, where the bunch divides much faster among more hands.
Dumping alters that math directly during play. When you call Dump, you return 1 unwanted tile face down and draw 3 tiles in exchange. Your hand gains 2 extra tiles, and the bunch loses 2 net tiles beyond the standard Peels, bringing the finish closer with every trade you make.
The mistake to avoid
It is tempting to think the game ends only when every single tile has been cleared from the table. The rule is that someone calls Bananas once the bunch holds fewer tiles than there are players, which means fewer than 2 tiles in a two player game, and that player uses every tile in hand.
